Q. How does the school encourage students to a closer walk with God?
A. The faculty of Weimar Academy firmly believes that a student's relationship
with God and growth in character are the most important things in life. Thus,
high priority is given to spiritual activities each week such as vespers, prayer
meeting, bible class and outreach. Also, all students and staff participate
in life-changing mission trips each spring. Through these, and many other opportunities,
students come to know Christ as their best friend and work for him. Each year
we have students who give their lives to God and are baptized as a Seventh-day
Adventist.
Q. What is Weimar Academy's relationship with the SDA church?
A. Weimar Academy fully supports the mission and beliefs of the Seventh-day
Adventist church. The Academy is also a member of Adventist Laymen Service
and Industries.
Q. Where is Weimar Academy situated?
A. Weimar Academy is situated in the Sierra Nevada foothills with luscious
evergreens, on 400 + acres with 12 miles of beautiful trails, and a well-kept
campus. It is in Northern California between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe on
Interstate 80.
Q. How many students attend Weimar Academy?
A. The average number of students runs between 30-55.
Q. What would be the total cost for a full school year? Does this include
everything?
A. The total expenses for the 2008-2009 school year is $12,625. This includes
tuition, room, board, and other miscellaneous fees. This is subject to change
slightly each year.
Q. Are there college preparatory classes?
A. Yes, there are college preparatory classes. All necessary classes are provided
for students who desire a college preparatory diploma rather than a general
diploma. Seniors are also allowed the to take one college class if they have
time in their schedule.
Q. Will my student be able to go to an accredited college?
A. Yes, many of the students have gone to colleges such as Walla Walla College,
Andrews University, Southern University, Pacific Union College and also Community
Colleges.
Q. Is there a work education program so that my student can work off part
of their bill?
A. Yes, Weimar Academy firmly believes in work education and requires each
student to work 12 hours per week. There are a variety of workstations available
including grounds, office work, custodial, cafeteria and more. Students receive
a work grade each month with determines the amount of the scholarship (A grade
= $260, B grade = $235, C grade = $210) for that month.
Q. Can my student get specific attention if they have a learning disability?
A. With a student teacher ratio of 3:1 students can get individual attention
as needed. However, we do not have a learning counselor prepared to offer
special education on staff. If your child has major learning disabilities,
Weimar Academy may not be the best option.
Q. How can I contact my student? Is Internet available?
A. Your student will be allowed access to the phone during study hall and any
free period. Internet access is available once a week to contact family and
friends.
Q. Can my student come home during the school year apart from major holidays?
A. Yes, there is a home leave every six weeks from Tuesday evening until Sunday
evening. Also if you live close enough, your student may come home every
open weekend.
Q. What is the dress code at Weimar Academy?
A. The dress code of Weimar Academy is clearly outlined in our handbook. Modesty
and a clean-cut appearance is the goal. We desire our students to learn to
dress as befits a son or daughter of God. Those students who do not meet
these guidelines will be asked to acquire a more suitable wardrobe.
Q. What is housing like for the students?
A. Dormitory rooms vary in size, but the majority accommodates two students.
Each room has its own sink and the option of bunk beds or separate beds.
There is a student lounge in each dorm with a kitchen, piano, showers, washer
and dryer combination, etc.
Q. What kind of traveling arrangements does the school have for getting students
to and from airports, bus stations or train stations? How much will this cost?
A. Transportation must be arranged with staff ahead of time. The cost is included
in tuition unless it is for personal purposes or to San Francisco ($150 round
trip) or to Sacramento ($50). However, if you find more than one person to
accompany
you, the price can be divided.
Q. What kind of food do you serve there?
A. Pizza, veggie burgers, potato dishes, soups, salad bar, hot dogs, fruit,
vegetables, haystacks, pasta, cereal, etc. The food is all vegan (total vegetarian,
no eggs, milk, cheese) but we offer variety.
Q. What kind of entertainment is offered at Weimar Academy? What about intramural
sports?
A. The Academy provides a variety of re-creational activities that focus on
building mind, body and soul. There is a strong emphasis on recreation that
develops healthy social skills and is in accordance with God's principles.
Intramural sports are not encouraged because of their tendency to create a
competitive spirit.
Q. How are healthy male/female friendships encouraged?
A. Weimar Academy promotes group interaction so that students can learn healthy
ways of relating to the opposite sex without the dangers that arise in an
exclusive relationship. We believe that the high school years are best spent
in making many friends, rather than one special friend. Thus, dating is not
allowed.
